Uganda: New Anti-homosexual Law
The Ugandan parliament recently approved, by a large majority, a law with tough new penalties to crack down on same-sex relationships. In Uganda, where homosexuality is already illegal, now even saying one is gay could end in a life sentence. The authorities are also pushing to ‘sensitize’ the rest of the population to report homosexuals, on the basis of a phantom civic duty.
The Italian government’s NO to the ‘European filiation certificate’ proposal
On 14 March 2023, the European Commission of the Senate rejected the European proposal that aims to guarantee parents residing in the Union the right to be recognised as homoparental mothers and fathers of their children in all member states.

Egalitarian marriage bill
On Thursday, 9 March 2023, Italia Viva senator Ivan Scalfarotto presented a bill to the Senate that aims to introduce so-called ‘egalitarian marriage’ in Italy, thus extending the institution of marriage to persons of the same sex.

This situation is shocking but unsurprising – asking the ongoing question: when will the concept of family be considered as something more than the heterosexual nuclear version.

The Oscars Awards – a place for all?
Events like the Oscars, with such a huge, global presence need to be at the forefront of progression and inclusion. If they are – they can work as examples, where others will hopefully follow. So yes – things are (slowly) moving in the right direction…and we can only hope Oscars 2024 does the same and more!
Homosexuality in the world
Based on 2022 estimates, homosexuality is still criminalised in 64 countries, as well as in six sub-national jurisdictions. Of these 64, six who are members of the United Nations, condemn homosexuality with the death penalty. In five others, also members of the UN, the death penalty could potentially be applied.
